„Six degrees of separation“ ist die wichtigste Theorie zu Sozialen Netzerken, die besagt, dass die Verbindung zweier Menschen maximal \u00fcber sechs Kontakte gehe. Diese These, das „Kleine-Welt-Ph\u00e4nomen“<\/a>, bereits 1967 vom US-Psychologen Stanley Milgram<\/a> aufgestellt und von anderen Studien immer wieder best\u00e4tigt, will jetzt der Telekomunikationskonzern O2 widerlegt haben. Ergebnis dessen Studie<\/a>: Die Welt w\u00e4chst zusammen, dank Internet k\u00f6nne man heute bereits von „Three degrees of separation“ sprechen, berichtet Karrierebibel-Blogger Jochen Mai<\/a>. Mit der Einschr\u00e4nkung, dass sich die beiden innerhalb derselben Interessensgruppe bewegen m\u00fcssen.<\/p>\n

W\u00e4hrend Milgram 1967 noch mit unvollst\u00e4ndig adressierten Briefen an einen befreundeten Aktienh\u00e4ndler experimentierte, lie\u00df O2 jetzt den „social organisational specialist“ Jeff Rodrigues, Gr\u00fcnder von „Social Systems Innovations“<\/a> untersuchen, wie neue Technologien das Netwzerken ver\u00e4ndern. Sein Ergebnis: „Rhe conventional notion of six degrees of separation is out of date.“<\/p>\n

Rodrigues fand unterscheidliche Netzwerke, denen wir angeh\u00f6ren. Zu den Mian networks geh\u00f6ren Familie, Freunde und Arbeit, dann folgen durchschnittlich f\u00fcnf „main shared \u2018interest\u2019 networks based on a range of personal interests from hobbies, sport, music and the neighbourhood we live in, to religion, sexuality and politics.“ Das Wachstum dieser Interessensnetzwerke und morderne Technologie, die hilft, in Verbindung zu bleiben, verk\u00fcrze den Weg zum anderen auf nur noch drei weitere Menschen dazwischen:<\/p>\n

„All respondents were asked to make contact with an unknown person from destinations selected at random from across the globe using only personal connections. By using their shared interest networks the participants were able, on average, to make the connection in three person-to-person links.<\/p>\n

Email and mobile phones were the technologies that had the most significant impact in facilitating the reduction of degrees from six to three. Of those participating in the study that were asked to make contact with an unknown person, the majority (98 per cent) chose to use either the internet or their mobile phone, across all age groups. Texting was also seen as a universally important technology whilst social networking sites such as Facebook were highly rated by the youngest age bracket but usage declined drastically the older in age was asked.“<\/p>\n
